“I believe that we need to listen to each other more than ever. We have more in common that what we believe.”
Design provides me the opportunity to bring together passion and curiosity to understand deeper the dialogue and relationships between people, cultures and technology. During my bachelor studies in Media I found user experience design. During my 13 years as a designer I shift from designing with technology to more service and technology agnostic design.
My focus in my work is to create environment for open collaboration and bring different disciplines together to translate challenges to actionable opportunities for social and environmental change. In my work across in health system challenges, we are shifting the paradigm to provide more equitable access and recognition to the most vulnerable groups in the society, basically, women & children. By bringing their experiences and needs into the essence of our approach, we try to ensure the system is listening then, interpret and design with them future services and interventions.
Prior founding Sonder, she was a Service Design Lead at M4ID working on improving access to HIV testing linked to care services in Tanzania and several projects on maternal health challenges across Sub-Saharan Africa and India including BOLD, Lab. our Ward and Group Antenatal Care Model.
Damaris founded the Sonder Collective because I have realised a few years ago that in order to become a better designer I need to stand entirely in what I believe is the right path for me as a designer and as a person. And the only way to achieve it, it was to bring together a group of individuals to put our values into practice.
