Lang Gao

The river doesn't ask which drop of rain brought it to the sea. I trust that what's done when integrity finds its way.

Lang is a data scientist and mixed-methods researcher who bridges quantitative rigor with deep attention to context. She is driven by translating complexity into actionable strategies, ensuring research not only illuminates problems but moves people toward solutions.

Prior to Sonder, at the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics, IFPRI, and the International Finance Corporation, Lang designed, led, and supported research projects across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Her expertise spans mixed-methods research, behavioral experimental design, and impact evaluation, applied to fields including agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, and financial inclusion.

At Sonder, Lang contributes to the Pathways project, where she drives segmentation, modeling, and analysis efforts while spearheading the revision of survey tools. She works closely with collaborators, weaving together qualitative, quantitative, and design approaches to ground research in both evidence and lived experience.

What draws Lang to Sonder is the people. She thrives among those who approach their work with openness, curiosity, and integrity—people who are excited to explore, unafraid to question, and grounded in who they are.
